The rupee on Friday slumped 25 paise to shut at 74.15 (provisional) in opposition to the US greenback, as muted home equities and elevated crude oil costs weighed on investor sentiments.

Foreign exchange merchants stated the native unit fell following extra hawkish feedback by Federal Reserve officers.

On the interbank overseas trade market, the native forex witnessed an intra-day excessive of 74.05 and a low of 74.21 in opposition to the US greenback.

The native unit lastly settled at 74.15, down 25 paise over its earlier shut of 73.90.

US Fed policymakers signaled they are going to begin to elevate rates of interest in March to fight inflation and this weighed on rising market currencies.

The greenback index, which gauges the buck’s energy in opposition to a basket of six currencies, was buying and selling 0.01% down at 94.78.

In the meantime, Brent crude futures, the worldwide oil benchmark, superior 1.01% to $85.32 per barrel.
